Interior Illumination Colour Change - Part 1

The following guide describes how to change the interior button illumination from green,
to another colour such as white, blue or red.
Part 1 of this guide shows how to change the illumination colour for the power window switches.
Part 2 of this guide shows how to change the illumination colour for the steering wheel buttons.

Step 1 - Removing the Power Window Switch from the vehicle
Using a plastic trim removal tool (or a credit card),
pry the back of the window switch trim assembly to disengage the clip.
Using your fingers, pull the trim upwards to fully release the clips
holding the back of the trim assembly in place.
Using a plastic trim removal tool (or a credit card),
pry the front of the window trim assembly to disengage the clip.
Again using your fingers, pull the trim upwards to fully release the remaining clips.

Drivers Window Switch Dis-assembly
Remove the 4 Phillips head screws holding the power window switch assembly in place.
Next, using a small flat headed screwdriver, release the 6 plastic tabs
and remove the power window switch backing.
Carefully remove the power window switch PCB from the housing.
Unclip the Power Mirror switch from the drivers door switch housing

Passenger Window Switch Dis-assembly
Remove the white plastic switch backing by releasing the 4 plastic clips
using a small flat headed screw driver
Pull the window switch PCB outward, and away from the mirror switch assembly.

Replacing the Surface Mount LEDs
The following image shows the location of the 5 x 1206 SMT LEDs used for the switch illumination.
One method used to remove the existing LEDs is to heat one side of the LED with a soldering iron,
and flick the LED side upwards. This method will most likely destroy the old LED, but
it does allow for quick and easy removal without using a de-soldering tool.
When fitting the new LEDs, you will need to make sure the polarity (Direction) or the LED is correct.
On the power window switches, the LED polarity is indicated by a K symbol located on one side of the LED.
The K symbol indicates the Cathode (Negative) side of the LED.
Depending on your replacement LEDs, there may be markings on the bottom of the LED to indicate polarity,
(Such as the example below, where the arrow points to the Cathode side of the LED), or there might be
an indication on the top of the LED.
Before assembling the Power window switch assembly,
it is recommended that you connect the board to the vehicle, and test the board illumination
to ensure the replacement LEDs are functioning correctly.
Power Mirror Switch LED Replacement
The power mirror switch assembly requires 4 x 1206 SMT LEDs
Remove the 4 SMT LEDs from the board
Again, when fitting the new LEDs, you will need to make sure the polarity (Direction) or the LED is correct.
On the power mirror switch, the LED polarity is indicated by a diode symbol next to the LED.
The diode symbol points to the Cathode (Negative) side of the LED.
Depending on your replacement LEDs, there may be markings on the bottom of the LED to indicate polarity,
(Such as the example below, where the arrow points to the Cathode side of the LED), or there might be
an indication on the top of the LED.
